The Early Years are a time of incredible development in a child from toddler to the beginnings of independence. That development needs to be carefully nurtured and managed in a lively, but structured learning environment. At St Andrews we recognise the importance of stimulating young minds and bodies through appropriate topics and activities, suited to the child's social, emotional, physical and intellectual development.
St Andrews International School, Bangkok, welcomes children into the nursery in the term after their 2nd birthday. The nursery offers a lively and engaging curriculum based on developing vital social, creative, physical and academic skills that form the foundation for success in subsequent years. Rooted in children's love of play, the Early Years and Key Stage 1 curriculum is designed to engage children in exploration of the world around them; language and stories; number, shape and pattern; physical challenges and creative expression. The curriculum aims originate in the UK Foundation Stage and National Curricula, but are delivered through a topic based, multisensory strategy.
The teachers at St Andrews International School, Bangkok, are employed for their awareness of the needs of young minds and developing learners. They are professional practitioners who are skilled in planning and delivering a curriculum that challenges each individual. What is most important for children at this age is nurturing a love of exploration and learning. Our Early Years and Key Stage 1 classrooms are active learning environments where children enjoy a practical introduction to new concepts. The teachers adapt the activities to suit the particular cultural, language, social and physical abilities of the children in their class, as they strive to enable each child to reach their potential. As you look around the classrooms, you will sense a buzz of energy with children working independently, in groups or as a class in a variety of ways. As they develop, the children learn more than just new information and skills, they also learn about how to learn and how to become more effective as learners.
The Early Years and Key Stage 1 children occupy a former residence which has been carefully redesigned to accommodate the classrooms, play areas, library, canteen and shared area. The children also have access to the other facilities across the school campus including ICT suite, drama studio, library resource centre, Thai classrooms and swimming pool. The children enjoy the best of both worlds - a separate area where we have created an intimate infant friendly environment and the benefits of specialist resources from the wider school community.
