Admissions

St Andrews International School, Bangkok welcomes applications from families who wish to enjoy the benefits of a UK National Curriculum school in an intimate learning environment. We aim to keep our class sizes small to allow for each child to be treated as an individual. However, providing a place is available we encourage parents to bring their children for a tour of the school and its facilities.

The Admissions Process

Welcome to St. Andrews International School Bangkok. My name is Mr. Roy, I am the school's Head of Admissions. I liaise with parents, teachers and management to ensure a smooth admissions process.

Please feel free to contact me regarding the school programmes or for details of the admissions process.

  1. The first step is to arrange a visit. I recommend that parents visit during school hours, so they can enjoy a full flavour of the learning environment in operation
  2. Secondly, parents need to complete an application form and provide the following documents

    • Provide copies of Previous School Reports
    • Provide a copy of the child's latest Medical Report
    • Provide Two Passport Size Photographs (taken within the last 6 months)
    • Provide Photocopies of the parents and child's Passports and Visas
    • Pay the Application Fee, which is an administrative, non-refundable charge
  3. The next stage is to arrange an assessment day for the child/ren. The assessment day is an opportunity for the child to participate in a normal school day with their peers and evaluate their compatability with the school. There are no formal entrance tests, however children do need to show a desire to learn; an appropriate level of English for their age and curriculum stage; a willingness to participate in individual, group and class activities and an ability to participate in the school curriculum. If this is difficult to evaluate, for any reason, on the assessment day, a child may be invited for further assessment days to allow for a fair review to be made.
  4. At the end of the assessment process either the Head of School or Head of Primary feedback to parents on the observations made and the recommendations from teachers, assistants and other professionals.

Learning Support Admissions

St Andrews is an inclusive school meaning that the school is open to all who wish to attend provided the child can access a mainstream education, or where reasonable adjustments can be made to allow a child full integration into mainstream education. The learning needs of all individuals within the school are to be considered during any admissions process.

Admissions Procedure
If a child has a recognised difficulty that is acknowledged on application:

  • Child's application form, report from previous school and any psychological or medical reports are reviewed by learning support and Head of Primary or Head of School
  • Parents are invited to meet with the learning support co-ordinator to discuss their child's needs
  • The child is invited for an assessment day
  • On assessment day they are observed by relevant personnel. If there is insufficient evidence to decide on acceptance on the first day, this can be extended to an additional 2 days' observation
  • Case is discussed with class teacher, learning support, heads of school and primary - any conditions of acceptance are decided, rate of fees etc.
  • Parents are invited for a consultation and case is discussed - if parents are in agreement then child is accepted
  • Parents of children with more severe learning needs will need to agree to a 1 term period of adjustment with a review to ensure the child is settling and school can provide all support required
If a need has not been previously diagnosed or acknowledged, but emerges during the assessment day - the learning support team will be invited to observe. If this is not possible, the child will be invited back for another assessment day where the above procedure will take place.

If a child is accepted on assessment day, but a condition emerges during the first term/year - then parents will be invited into school for a review meeting and support agreed for the child to continue in school.

St Andrews International School, Bangkok, is an inclusive school. However, to ensure each child can reach their potential, parents may have to accept certain conditions related to their child's acceptance within the school. Conditions can include: additional tuition, employing a support assistant, engaging the services of external psychological or medical professionals, completing a trial period. Where possible, conditions will be agreed before a child is admitted. However, the school will reserve the right to review a child's progression through the school as issues may arise at a later time.
