The Primary School is made up of Key Stage
1, consisting of Years 1 and 2 covering children aged 5-7 years and Key Stage
2, covering Years 3-6 or children aged 7-11 years.
In the Primary School, we enable all
students to realize their potential. We achieve this by recognizing that each
child has different needs and preferences and tailoring our approach to suit
the individual. We incorporate the best practices of the English National
Curriculum into a topic based approach where learning is integrated into child
centred activities. Topics draw on a range of themes providing a balance of
history, geography, science and literature and ensuring high levels of interest
and motivation on the children’s part. High academic standards are maintained
through attention to National Curriculum key objectives. Our teachers are of
the highest quality and know how to get the best out of each child. We have
high expectations of all children and the work provided is challenging and
stimulating.
The
curriculum is supported by a range of specialist teaching opportunities
in Thai, French, P.E. and music. The lively music programme is based on
instrumental development and appreciation; exploring different styles
and the principle elements of musical composition. Each pupil is
provided with an instrument with which to learn. Currently Years 3 and
4 learn violin or cello; Years 5 and 6 learn brass instruments; but
children who develop a particular interest in an instrument will be
provided the opportunity to gain competence in it. Early musical
competence is a useful discipline and a great joy for the children,
that can last beyond their school years.
Partnership with parents is a vital
element of educational success. We encourage our parent community to become
involved in their children’s learning through individual contact with teachers,
consultation meetings, contact books and whole school celebrations.Parents are kept informed about the
curriculum and classroom routines through a Meet the Teacher evening early in
Term 1 and half termly curriculum letter. We operate a genuine open door policy
where members of staff and management are available for meetings when parents
need to speak with them. We are always grateful to receive volunteers to help
with classroom activities, school trips and reading.
